In the last several years, in the (sometimes obsessive) search for an increasingly healthier diet, salt has ranged from being the culprit behind cardiovascular diseases to being an indispensable source of sodium for the proper functioning of the body.
After missing from the table for a long time under the assumption it was bad for your health, salt returns to our plates.
But be careful! Not just any salt: Himalayan pink salt, with its 84 minerals, is considered one of the best options for daily use.
Salt does not only live in our diets. If you didn’t know already, there is a type of salt that, due to its bitter flavor, is not usually used to season plates, but it has other wonderful properties for health in general. Ladies and gentlemen, we present to you…Epsom salt. Composed entirely of magnesium, it benefits your skin and muscles, and it has therapeutic properties that remove bad energy from your body and mind. Here is a taste of the surprising properties of this seldom used salt, with 12 interesting recipes that you’ll love.

  1. Garden – The high level of magnesium in Epsom salt can help your plants become greener and produce more flowers.
  2. Pedicure – Add half a cup of Epsom salt in warm water and soak your feet for five minutes. Then, remove the polish, cut and file your nails. For extra softness, soak your feet again for five or ten minutes in the salt water.
  3. Volumize your hair – Mix equal parts conditioner and Epsom salt. Massage the mixture into your hair and leave for 20 minutes. The result? A lion’s mane.
  4. Facial exfoliant – Mix half a tablespoon of Epsom salt (fine grain) with your preferred face wash. Use the mixture to massage your skin in a small circular motion to deeply clean your pores. Rinse with cold water and dry gently with a towel.
  5. Deep relaxation – To create the perfect salt detox, you can use our Herbal-Cure and Spice-Cure aromatherapy salts, which use Epsom salt as a foundation. Or if you don’t have these products yet, you can add half a cup of Epsom salt to your tub and soak for 15 minutes. You can also add lavender essential oil. You’ll want to do it every day!
  6. Salt texturizer spray – Combine a glass of hot water, two tablespoons of Epsom salt, one tablespoon of aloe vera gel and half a tablespoon of conditioner. Dampen your hair with the liquid and scrunch it to get beachy waves.
  7. Fabric softener – Mix four cups of Epsom salt with 20 drops of lavender essential oil. Every time you use the washing machine, add ¼ cup. Add detergent as normal, and that’s it. You no longer need to buy fabric softener.
  8. For mosquito bites that are terrible this time of year – Dampen a cotton ball in a mixture of cold water and two tablespoons of Epsom salt. Apply to bites and leave it on for five minutes.
  9. To relieve muscle pain – If you have muscle or joint pain, nothing will do you better than spending half an hour in a hot bath with a cup of Epsom salt. It also provides immediate relief from intense headaches.
  10. To clean kitchen or bathroom tiles – Mix equal parts dish soap and Epsom salt. Clean as normal and rinse with water. It is effective, and you avoid cleaning with chemicals.
  11. For restless children and parents who don’t sleep – Add a cup of Epsom salt in the tub before their nightly bath. They will sleep like little angels, and you will have a restful night.
  12. To fight acne – Because Epsom salt has antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties, mix it with water and apply with a cotton ball or spray on the affected areas.
